Last november, my wife and I we visiting St Paul's cathedral for the morning eucharist, then we heading to the tower of London for a tour there. We thought about getting a taxi or uber, but I really wanted to take an icon double-decker bus, ( we're both from Australia, btw), but most are the modern kind and look like a tourist coach. Just as we were figuring out what to do, a 1960's bus turned up complete with a Cockney conducter wearing a peaked cap. It made my day 😊

I have been recently at London (Thank you kindly Miss Tiffany Foerbes for your helpful suggestions) my tip is as it follows: don, t dress as a tourist! A jacket with a pocket handkerchief, suit pants (not jeans or shorts) an well ironed shirt , polished shoes and a cravatte will do the trick!

Not disabled but hate stairs. I avoided the tube and stick with buses which, frankly, had more local stops and was more convenient.

One place I will always rant and rave about because it's mostly free is my favourite of the South Kensington museums, that is the Victoria and Albert museum. I can some times spend multiple days there because it is that good. And even during the high season you can still find amazingly quiet parts of it. And if you decide to get a membership there I recommend it since the paid for exhibitions are about £15-£25 a go. So say you do four exhibitions that membership fee has paid for itself and then some.

During our visit to London with our children (one year old and 6 months old) we experienced London as not being really accessible. We managed, as we could carry the stroller up the stairs, but with a wheelchair it's not that easy to travel on the tube. Only few stations are accessible and often you have to use 5 different elevators.

Amazing as Always guys. Just had a week in London and found it 70% accessible. Stayed in Marble Arch area was able to get on the the tube at Bond St. Stayed at DoubleTree by Hilton - Marble Arch. It's accessible room and proximity to Oxford St was PERFECT. Greatest tip for wheelchair users (who are visiting for the first time) like myself. We took advantage of the Hop On Hop Off Bus. As it was a quick stress-free way to get to specific sites/attractions quickly and easily. P.s. Manual Wheelchair user.

Social media did tell you, just that most of you have this romantic Mary Poppins view of London and won’t be told otherwise. We all tend to believe what we see on the TV, I know I did, thought Madison Square Gardens was filthy I was so disappointed. Opened my eyes I can tell you.

One thing that shocked me about visiting London was how close a lot of the major attractions are to one another. My wife and I travelled into Westminster station from West Kensington. As soon as we got out of the station, Big Ben was right in front of us. We crossed Westminster bridge (as you do), then did a tour of Westminster Abbey. It was then a short walk to Buckingham Palace, up the Mall to Trafalgar Square, then a short bus ride to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. One of my wife's bucket list items was to see Phantom of the Opera in Her Majesty'sTheatre, (now His Majesty's Theatre), and we did that on the first day of our trip.

My wife and I visited the UK in October 2023 from Australia. Straight after arriving at Heathrow, we boarded a National Express bus to Southampton, stayed there 2 nights and boarded a ship to Norway on a 2 week cruise. Once back in Southampton, we took another National Epress bus to Victoria Street bus station. We stayed in London for a week (at West Kensington), and took the Tube every day to see the sights. A lovely young lady that worked at Earl's Court station recommended we get a weekly Oyster pass that covered 3 zones. I think it cost us £80 for the week. It was much cheaper than paying daily. When we were leaving, we took the Tube back to Heathrow, and even though it was well out of our ticketed zone, it accepted the card at the end. For the first few days, travelling on the Tube was a bit confusing, but once we realised the zones and the colour of the lines, we were old hands after a week 😊

This happened to me last year. It was a packed night at Wembley Stadium, and thousands of people were going through the barrier at the tube station. Because of this, they just had the barriers open, and you were supposed to tap. I tapped, but I guess I didn't make contact as my entry was never registered. I tapped out and then found out the next I day I was charged the entire length of the tube up to where I got off. It cost me £4 going ended up being almost £15 for the return
